PART 2 MEDIEVAL PRACTICES WITHIN THE CHURCH (CHOOSING AN APOSTOLIC VIEW)

MEDIEVAL PRACTICES IN THE MODERN CHURCH
A Prophetic Warning and

Apostolic Teaching for Rising Ministers and the Future Church

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” – Revelation 2:29 (KJV)

What Was the Medieval Church?

In the medieval era (roughly AD 500–1500), the Church became entangled with government, hierarchy, superstition, and elite power structures.

It shifted from the organic, Spirit-led Acts Church into a system of:

Top-down authority (pope, bishops, regional power)

Harsh punishment of dissenters (heretic burnings, excommunication)

Control of Scripture (only in Latin; only the clergy could interpret it)

Gatekeeping of spiritual experiences (the “holy” few dictated access to God)

This produced a fear-based system of religious control masquerading as unity and holiness.

Are These Medieval Patterns Resurfacing in Today’s Church?

Yes — and not just in traditional institutions. Some charismatic, apostolic, prophetic, and evangelical circles are now mimicking the same spirit that once dominated the Dark Ages Church.

Here’s how the modern Church media and ministry structure sometimes mirrors the medieval:

1. Clergy Castles and Untouchable Apostles

In medieval times, bishops and popes were regal, sometimes richer and more powerful than kings.
Today, some “chief apostles,” “celebrity prophets,” and megachurch CEOs now live separated from the people, protected by protocol and layers of staff. Correction is rare. Honor is demanded.

+ First Church model: Paul rebuked Peter publicly in Galatians 2 — out of love, not ego.
++ Medieval model: You don’t question the bishop or you’re branded “rebellious” or “Jezebel.”

 2. Selling the Sacred

In the medieval Church, indulgences were sold to “buy forgiveness” or “get out of purgatory.”
Today, some ministries subtly teach that giving money can “unlock” miracles, healing, or prophecy. This is spiritual manipulation in a slick suit.

++ First Church: Freely you have received, freely give (Matthew 10:8)
++ Medieval mindset: Give $1,000 for a 1,000-fold return — or else you’re “blocking your blessing.”
+++ TD knows this movement and what is says, does and means. I would the comment above is a “works based” type of false authority, to woo donors. And that could be true. BUT NOW ALWAYS..for there is a difference in the Holy Spirit ‘strongly impressing. someone to be bold and unafraid, not compromise BUT To  significant’ “NEED and ‘IF, then the Holy Spirit births something it is not false but must be questioned.

3. Media Thrones: Preaching to Control, Not Equip

Today’s TV and digital media ministries are powerful tools — but many have become pulpits of fear, dominance, and market-driven content, not Holy Spirit truth.

Airwave apostles dictate doctrine without feedback or mutual accountability.

Media is used to “call out witches,” “expose enemies,” or “police the Church” for entertainment or income.

Real shepherding is replaced with televised one-way rebuke — not community, not restoration.

4. Spiritual Illiteracy by Design

In the medieval Church, the common people were kept from reading the Bible.
Today, many believers still rely solely on “what the prophet says” or “what my apostle teaches” without studying the Word themselves. Scripture becomes a secondary voice, not the primary one.

+ First Church: The Bereans searched the Scriptures daily to test Paul (Acts 17:11)
++ Medieval mindset: “Don’t question the man of God — just receive.”

What the First Church Did — And What Future Leaders Must Recover

To train rising ministers, pastors, apostles, prophets, and faithful laypeople, we must return to:

Humble Servant Leadership: Jesus washed feet. Paul refused pay at times.

Shared Ministry: The five-fold gifts are meant to equip the saints — not rule over them. (Ephesians 4:11–12)

Spirit-led Accountability: Correction, repentance, and public integrity — without manipulation or hierarchy.

Word-Centered Discipleship: Teach people to read and test everything — including prophecy.

Final Word to the Church, Airwaves, and Next Generation

We must address these trends within our own house — not just in culture or politics.
Let the warning go forth: do not rebuild what Christ tore down. Do not resurrect the religious towers of the medieval age in digital form.

Let rising leaders study the Acts Church.
Let laypeople learn the Word again.
Let seasoned elders repent where needed.
Let media platforms become equipping spaces, not spiritual fortresses.
Let all things be tested by the fruit of Christ, the character of the Cross, and the voice of the Spirit.
