How “Family Witchcraft” Emerges When Truth and Direct Conversation Disappear
INTRODUCTION
Across families, ministries, leadership teams, and Christian communities, there is a subtle but destructive pattern I call “emotional dishonesty.”
It is not mystical, spooky, or occult.
It simply describes the refusal to relate “in the light” as Jesus teaches.
Emotional dishonesty includes:
-
talking about people rather than to them
-
forming opinions without conversation
-
avoiding accountability
-
triangulating (using a third party instead of direct contact)
-
pretending everything is “fine” while harboring hidden offense
-
smiling outwardly while maneuvering inwardly
-
using status or position to avoid Matthew 18 responsibility
This is the opposite of biblical maturity, meekness, and unity.
In extreme form, emotional dishonesty can produce a relational atmosphere I have called “family witchcraft.”
Not because it involves spells — but because it imitates the controlling, manipulative, secretive dynamics that the Bible associates with rebellious relational behavior (1 Samuel 15:23).
Let’s explore this biblically.

I. WHAT IS EMOTIONAL DISHONESTY?
Definition (Taveau D’Arcy Leadership Term)
Emotional dishonesty is the unwillingness to communicate openly, truthfully, and relationally — resulting in avoidance, secret conclusions, false peace, covert control, and spiritually unhealthy distance.
Its fruits include:
-
overthinking
-
suspicion
-
“reading between the lines” instead of talking
-
passive aggression
-
people-pleasing
-
quiet resentment
-
internal narratives never checked with the other person
-
fear of honest conversation
-
and finally… DIVISION
The Bible addresses this directly and repeatedly.
II. GOD’S REQUIREMENT FOR HONEST, DIRECT RELATIONSHIP
Below are the primary Scriptures that expose emotional dishonesty.

1. Isaiah 1:18 — GOD INVITES US TO “REASON TOGETHER”
“Come now, and let us reason together, though your sins be as scarlet, I will wash them white as snow.” saith the LORD…” (KJV)
God Himself models direct, respectful conversation.
He does not whisper about us —
He engages us.
When Christians refuse honest dialogue, they violate the nature of God.

2. 1 John 1:7 — WALKING IN THE LIGHT REQUIRES OPENNESS (AND WILLINGNESS)
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another…” (KJV)
Light = fellowship
Darkness = avoidance
Emotional dishonesty is darkness, because:
-
nothing is brought into the open
-
relationships are vague and cloudy
-
assumptions replace truth
-
peace is artificial, not real
3. James 3:17 — HEAVENLY WISDOM IS “EASY TO BE INTREATED”
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated…” (KJV)
“Easy to be entreated” means:
-
approachable
-
reachable
-
willing to listen
-
not defensive
-
not evasive
Emotional dishonesty creates a high wall where no one can reach the real person behind the mask.
This is not heavenly wisdom.

4. Ephesians 2:14–15 — CHRIST DESTROYS DIVIDING WALLS
“For he is our peace… and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.” (KJV)
When believers build emotional walls, avoid hard conversations, or hide behind spiritual language instead of truth, they rebuild what Jesus tore down.
5. Galatians 6:1 — THE MATURE BELIEVER RESTORES, NOT AVOIDS
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness…” (KJV)
Spiritual maturity = gentle honesty
Emotional dishonesty = silent judgment
The shepherd heart restores.
The immature heart avoids.
6. Matthew 18:15–16 — JESUS COMMANDS DIRECT CONVERSATION
“If thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone…” (KJV)
Jesus’ instructions are:
-
Go to the person privately.
-
If that fails, bring one witness.
-
If that fails, bring it before leadership.
Jesus does not permit:
-
gossip
-
“sharing concerns” with others
-
silent treatment
-
backdoor strategy
-
gang-up meetings
-
avoiding the person
-
punishing them with distance
Avoidance is the opposite of Matthew 18 obedience.
III. WHERE “FAMILY WITCHCRAFT” APPEARS (Pastor T term)
Again, this is your metaphor — not literal occult practice.
You use it because the behavior patterns match:
Family witchcraft = emotional manipulation, secret control, indirect influence, and hidden agendas that steer relationships without honest conversation.
The Bible calls this the sin of rebellion and stubbornness.
1 Samuel 15:23 (KJV)
“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.”
When people:
-
refuse direct conversation
-
harden themselves against correction
-
use silence or avoidance as power
-
manipulate opinions behind the scenes
-
protect ego instead of truth
-
operate in secret, not light
They enter the spirit of rebellion, which Scripture compares to witchcraft — not sorcery, but manipulative control.
This is why your nickname fits.
It is not accusation —
it is a diagnosis of relational sin.

IV. WHAT EMOTIONAL DISHONESTY PRODUCES
1. Relational Divides
(Contradicting Eph. 2:14–15)
2. Suspicion and Whispering
(Proverbs 16:28 — “a whisperer separateth chief friends”)
3. False Impressions
(Col. 3:9 — “Lie not one to another”)
4. Pride and Unteachability
(Proverbs 13:10 — “Only by pride cometh contention”)
5. Spiritual Stagnation
(James 4:6 — God resists the proud)
6. Loss of Real Fellowship
(1 John 1:7 — fellowship is only in the light)

V. HOW CHRIST CALLS US TO LIVE INSTEAD
1. Truthfulness
Ephesians 4:25 — “Speak every man truth with his neighbour.”
2. Meekness
Galatians 6:1 — restoration with gentleness
3. Peace-Making
Matthew 5:9 — “Blessed are the peacemakers”
4. Humility
Philippians 2:3 — “in lowliness of mind…”
5. Direct Communication
Matthew 18:15 — “go to him alone”
6. Charity (Agapē Love)
1 Corinthians 13:6 — love “rejoiceth in the truth”
Honest conversation is holy work.
Hiddenness is unholy work.
There is no middle ground.

VI. CONCLUSION: THE CALL BACK TO LIGHT
Emotional dishonesty feels safe, but it is spiritually dangerous.
It damages families, fellowships, staff teams, friendships, and ministries.
The Holy Spirit calls the modern Church back to:
-
light
-
truth
-
meekness
-
directness
-
reasoning together
-
restoration
-
unity
-
agapē love
The shortest distance between two points is — and always will be — a direct conversation.
When Christians choose this path, they break the power of emotional dishonesty and shut down every form of “family witchcraft.”
And the peace of Christ returns.
