NOTE: This is extra long, but fast reading. I call it “BR ” Binge Reading (“read in part, know in part” haha). Due to the light of the modern media, I include a part on “revealing tawdry gossip on Christian media and I myself take particular stance against such. I do not accuse ,attack or mention “people’s names “UNLESS I give them praise, I will however movements, and could name a movement head, however I say carefully” I am not accusing the top leader, for they problem do not understand HOW the faith filled people they license, ordain or allow to a part of their Official Ministry Pastor’s Fellowship behave! (and I really DO!)
CORE TEACHING OF “HEARING FROM THE LORD
TD Says” I have been teaching on this same inner subject, in life and on media, since prior to Y2K in Virginia, And it never gets old or boring or tiring, I LIVE THE LORD and HIS LOGOS WORD and HIS RHEMA WORD (and I owe that to my similar Bible theologians parents and grandparents, aunt and relatives!
In this share in depth my FAVORITE PERSON LIFE VERSES:
Here’s a rich collection of verses in KJV, ESV, and NIV that connect with “God’s Spirit of Truth, Supernatural Grace Given (true) Wisdom and (ideas, in ministry) Revelation”
“God reveals secrets”
He exposes the enemy’s plans before they happen
Paul’s abundance of revelations
The Spirit guiding into truth and revelation
Teaching Section: Gnosis vs Epignosis
1. Word Study Basics
-
Gnosis (γνῶσις)
-
General knowledge, awareness, or information.
-
Can be intellectual, external, second-hand.
-
Example: reading theology, hearing sermons, studying history.
-
-
Epignosis (ἐπίγνωσις)
-
Deep, full, experiential knowledge.
-
Spirit-to-spirit knowing, a living acquaintance.
-
Implies personal relationship, not just data.
-
2. Key Scripture: Ephesians 1:17
Paul prays not that the Ephesians would merely gain gnōsis (facts about Christ) but epignōsis — Spirit-given knowledge of Him.
-
NIV’s paraphrase captures it well: “…so that you may know Him better.”
-
This is from within (by the Spirit) not merely from without (books, sermons, media).
3. Biblical Examples
Nicodemus (John 3:1–10)
-
Gnosis: Nicodemus had vast knowledge of the Scriptures and traditions.
-
Epignosis missing: He could not grasp spiritual rebirth until encountering Jesus personally.
-
Jesus told him: “You must be born again.”
Saul → Paul (Acts 9)
-
Gnosis: Saul knew the Law better than most. He had external mastery of Scripture.
-
Epignosis: On the Damascus road, the revelation of Jesus Himself transformed his knowledge into relationship. From then on, Paul preached Christ by revelation, not merely theory (Gal. 1:12).
Disciples on the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–32)
-
Gnosis: They knew the Scriptures and recent events about Jesus’ death.
-
Epignosis: Their eyes were opened when Jesus revealed Himself in the breaking of bread. “Did not our hearts burn within us?”
Philippians 3:10
-
Paul, after decades of ministry, still says: “That I may know Him.”
-
He already knew about Christ, but longs for ever-deeper epignōsis — participation, encounter, relationship.
4. Why Leaders Must Teach This Difference
-
Risk of Gnosis only:
-
People become puffed up (1 Cor. 8:1 — “knowledge puffeth up”).
-
Knowledge without revelation can lead to pride, debate, or dead religion.
-
-
Power of Epignosis:
-
Transforms character, not just intellect.
-
Builds intimacy with Christ.
-
Equips believers to discern truth vs deception by the Spirit (1 John 2:27).
-
5. Practical Applications for Ministry
-
For Teaching/Preaching:
-
Don’t just deliver information — invite listeners to experience Jesus in the text.
-
Encourage prayerful listening: “Lord, reveal Yourself to me in this passage.”
-
-
For Personal Study:
-
Ask: Do I know about this truth, or do I know the Person behind it?
-
Expect the Spirit to bring Scripture alive.
-
-
For Leadership Training:
-
Teach teams to depend on revelation, not charisma or head-knowledge.
-
Guard against pride that comes from gnōsis without epignōsis.
-
6. Reflection Questions
-
Do I mainly know about Christ, or do I truly know Him in Spirit and truth?
-
How do I recognize when God’s Word has shifted from head-knowledge to heart-revelation?
-
What practices help me move from gnōsis to epignōsis (prayer, waiting, listening, obedience)?
Summary:
-
Gnosis = knowledge about Christ (external, informational).
-
Epignosis = knowledge of Christ (internal, revelatory, relational).
-
Leaders must help believers go beyond facts and encounter the living Jesus.
BIG SCRIPTURES
Proverbs 8:12 — “Knowledge of Witty Inventions”
Text in Three Versions
-
KJV: “I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.”
-
ESV: “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.”
-
NIV: “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.”
1. The Hebrew Word “mezimmot” (מְזִמּוֹת)
-
Root: mezimmah = plans, devices, schemes, thoughts.
-
Usage in Scripture:
-
Positive: wise plans, discretion (Prov. 1:4; Prov. 2:11).
-
Negative: evil schemes, plots of the wicked (Prov. 12:2; Prov. 24:8).
-
-
Meaning in Proverbs 8:12: Wisdom gives understanding of plans and devices — whether they are good strategies or exposure of hidden schemes.
2. Why the KJV Says “Witty Inventions”
-
“Witty” in 1611 English = clever, skillful, sharp.
-
“Inventions” = devices or contrivances.
-
Thus, “witty inventions” = clever devices, skillful plans, or ingenious schemes.
-
This includes discerning man’s plots and unmasking the enemy’s devices.
3. Theological Depth — Exposing Enemy Plans
When read through the lens of God’s protective wisdom, Proverbs 8:12 harmonizes with other scriptures where God exposes plots:
-
Job 5:12 – “He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.”
-
2 Corinthians 2:11 – “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.”
-
2 Kings 6:9–12 – Elisha reveals the Syrian king’s secret war plans.
Thus, “knowledge of witty inventions” is not only about creating wise plans but also discerning and exposing the schemes of the enemy.
4. Comparing Versions
-
KJV emphasizes the creative/discerning aspect: “witty inventions.”
-
ESV & NIV flatten it to “discretion” — accurate, but less vivid.
-
The Hebrew nuance includes both:
-
Discretion for making wise plans.
-
Discernment to detect hidden schemes (human or demonic).
-
5. Ministry Application
-
Wisdom gives believers the ability to create Spirit-led strategies for life and ministry.
-
Wisdom also exposes traps — the “devices” of man or Satan (Psalm 21:11; Isaiah 8:10).
-
This matches Proverbs 8’s theme: Wisdom protects, directs, and forewarns.
Summary:
Proverbs 8:12 in KJV’s “knowledge of witty inventions” is drawn from mezimmot, meaning plans, devices, or schemes. While ESV and NIV simplify it to “discretion,” the fuller Hebrew sense includes the idea of God-given ability to perceive clever devices — both to make wise plans and to discern enemy plots. This connects directly with Job 5:12, 2 Corinthians 2:11, and 2 Kings 6:9–12: God exposes the plans of the crafty and gives His people foresight.
Daniel – God Reveals Mysteries
Daniel 2:28 KJV: “But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days…”
ESV: “But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days…”
NIV: “But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come…”
God Speaks and Reveals Job 33:14–
God Speaks Repeatedly to Humble Humanity
Job 33:14–16 KJV: “For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction.”
-
ESV: “For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds, then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings.”
-
NIV: “For God does speak—now one way, now another—though no one perceives it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings.”
Teaching Point:
-
Human pride, self-reliance, or distraction often blinds us.
-
God bypasses our conscious pride and speaks when we are vulnerable, still, or “asleep.”
-
Dreams and visions are one of God’s oldest channels of revelation — exposing sin, warning of danger, or preparing for His purposes.

NIV: “…these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.”

John 16:13 KJV: “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth… and he will show you things to come.”
ESV: “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth… and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”
