Reformation Day: Martin Luther, Germany<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Intro<\/span><\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong> This has everything to do with how I believe for each and every person<\/em>\u2014pastor, layperson, and cross-cultural believer\u2014across the many generations in Christ.<\/p>\n

I am pro-Catholic<\/strong>, having known and lived among many throughout my life, and I remain modern-day friends with several of them. Therefore, what is described here is not directed against Catholics.<\/strong> I want to make that clear, because my purpose is to explain\u2014not to wound or divide.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the last fifteen years or so of being online, I often think humorously of German Martin Luther<\/strong>, posting his \u201ctheses\u201d as though he were addressing today\u2019s vast landscape of mega<\/em> and micro<\/em> churches\u2014especially within the modern charismatic reform movements.<\/p>\n

Underneath all of this stands the supreme biblical example: the Apostle Paul<\/strong>, who exhorted believers in Philippians 2:12<\/strong> to \u201cwork out your own salvation with fear and trembling.\u201d<\/em>
That implies every believer must personally know and study the real Bible\u2014not simply inherit someone else\u2019s views about it<\/strong>, as so many have done.<\/p>\n

For these truths concern heaven or hell<\/strong>, and I don\u2019t want anyone winding up in the wrong, unsafe place. Hence, I write to encourage freedom\u2014freedom for every believer to study the authentic Word of God for themselves.<\/p>\n

And so, I often feel like a \u201cnew-day reformer\u201d<\/strong> as I post and share across social platforms and among readers around the globe.<\/p>\n

November 1st \u2014 the morning after<\/em> REFORMATION DAY OCT 31, 1517<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The ink is still drying on Martin Luther\u2019s 95 Theses, freshly nailed to the Wittenberg door (or, in today\u2019s lingo, posted to his Substack and cross-shared to TikTok<\/em>). No one quite realizes yet that a quiet German monk has just triggered one of history\u2019s biggest comment threads \u2014 the Reformation itself.<\/span><\/p>\n

Imagine it: Luther sitting at his wooden desk, sipping his own version of black coffee (no pumpkin spice, no sponsor links), unaware that his \u201cI respectfully disagree\u201d with the establishment would one day divide Christendom, reform theology, and ignite centuries of debate over grace, faith, and who\u2019s actually in charge of church coffers.<\/span><\/p>\n

That door \u2014 the big wooden postboard \u2014 became the first viral moment<\/em> in church history.<\/span>
His \u201cupload\u201d was theological dynamite.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fast-Forward to Now<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

If Luther lived today, the theses would have been dropped on a WordPress blog titled \u201cWittenberg Whispers: Thoughts of a Monk Gone Bold.\u201d<\/em><\/span>
Hashtags? #FaithAlone #NoIndulgences #DoorDropChallenge.<\/span><\/p>\n

The local clergy might issue a 12-part YouTube rebuttal (\u201cWhy Luther Got It Wrong\u201d), while seminarians would release response videos titled \u201c95 REASONS I UNFOLLOWED MARTIN LUTHER.\u201d<\/span>
And somewhere on TikTok, a kind but snarky commentator would begin:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSo apparently this monk just went off<\/em> on the Pope. Let\u2019s talk about it.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Yet, satire aside, Luther\u2019s courage still echoes.<\/span>
He wasn\u2019t out to destroy \u2014 he was out to reform. To reason. To bring light to darkened corridors of unquestioned power.<\/span>
And every generation since has needed its own door, its own pen, its own stand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Modern Reformers \u2014 The \u201cDay After\u201d Kind<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

In America, the same spirit burned in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.<\/strong>, who refused to let injustice stay nailed to society\u2019s door unchallenged.<\/span>
Rosa Parks<\/strong>, who quietly sat down<\/em> so that others might stand up<\/em>.<\/span>
And countless others \u2014 men and women, pastors and prophets, poets and programmers \u2014 who dare to confront the \u201cstatus-quo system\u201d without swords or spears, but with moral clarity and peaceful courage.<\/span><\/p>\n

They, too, became reformers \u2014 not for theological indulgences but for human dignity, freedom, and respect.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Modern \u201cNail and Door\u201d Moment<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Today\u2019s \u201cdoor\u201d might be a blog, a camera lens, a podcast mic, or a prayer meeting.<\/span>
When we post a truth, when we pen a respectful protest against corruption, coercion, or religious showmanship \u2014 we, too, continue the quiet work of Reformation.<\/span><\/p>\n

To quote one of my earliest tweets from 2012, written from the DFW Metroplex ministry scene:<\/span><\/p>\n

That remains true \u2014 and essential.<\/span>
Whether in the 1500s or the 2020s, the call to discern, to reason (Isaiah 1:18), to reform with love and sound doctrine still stands.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Word to the Modern Church<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Reformation Day isn\u2019t just history \u2014 it\u2019s a mindset.<\/span>
It\u2019s the courage to question the unbiblical, the maturity to do so without rage, and the grace to stay Christ-like while confronting modern \u201cPharisees\u201d and powers-that-be.<\/span><\/p>\n

So here we are \u2014 the day after<\/em>.<\/span>
No fireworks, no hashtags trending. Just a few thinkers, writers, pastors, and everyday believers still daring to quietly say:<\/span><\/p>\n

Come, let us reason together.\u201d<\/span><\/strong>
\u2014 Isaiah 1:18<\/span><\/p>\n

And perhaps, like Luther, that\u2019s where true reform begins \u2014 not in outrage, but in obedience to conscience and truth.<\/span><\/p>\n
