Mutual Submission in the First Church vs. the Rise of Hierarchical Control: How Freedom Became Oppression (Including Women)<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

1. The First Church: Mutual Submission & Freedom in Christ<\/span><\/h2>\n

In the early Book of Acts Church<\/strong>, there was no celebrity leadership, no government-style hierarchy, and no suppression of women. The First Church followed Jesus’ model: servant leadership, Spirit-led governance, and relational accountability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSubmitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

What Mutual Submission Looked Like:<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Authority was not domination<\/strong>\u2014it was spiritual maturity and responsibility<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    POINT<\/strong>: In the First Church, submission was mutual<\/strong>, not forced. It was about yielding to Christ and honoring His Spirit in one another<\/strong>\u2014not building power pyramids.<\/p>\n

    \u00a02. Women in the First Church: Spirit-Led, Not Silenced<\/span><\/h2>\n

      Mary Magdalene<\/strong>: First sent with resurrection message (John 20:17)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Priscilla<\/strong>: Taught Apollos, a male preacher (Acts 18:26)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Phoebe<\/strong>: A deacon (Romans 16:1)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Junia<\/strong>: Called \u201coutstanding among the apostles\u201d (Romans 16:7)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Philip\u2019s daughters<\/strong>: Public prophets (Acts 21:9)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The Holy Spirit fell on \u201csons and daughters\u201d<\/strong> (Acts 2:17). In the early church, women were honored as part of God\u2019s Spirit-led ministry team.<\/p>\n

      \u00a03. How Hierarchy and Control Entered the Church<\/span><\/h2>\n

      The Shift: Constantine & Rome (4th Century)<\/span><\/h3>\n

      After Christianity became the state religion under Emperor Constantine<\/strong>, the church began to mirror Roman government and imperial control<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

        Bishops were elevated as rulers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        The pope emerged as a political and spiritual monarch<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        Hierarchical structure replaced Holy Spirit order<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        Men-only leadership was enforced<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        Women were increasingly viewed as spiritually inferior or dangerous<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          \u00a04. Jezebel: A Misused Weapon to Silence Women<\/span><\/h2>\n

          In Revelation 2:20<\/strong>, Jesus rebukes a church for tolerating<\/strong> a woman who called herself a prophetess and led people astray into sin<\/strong>.
          But modern churches often weaponize \u201cJezebel\u201d as a slur:<\/p>\n

            Used against outspoken women<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          • \n

            Used against women in leadership or spiritual discernment<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          • \n

            Sometimes used without proof or relationship<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            \u00a0This is not biblical:<\/span><\/h3>\n

              Jesus rebukes the leadership<\/strong>, not the woman herself, for failing to confront sin<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

              \u201cJezebel\u201d is not a code word for \u201cstrong woman\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

              True correction must follow Galatians 6:1<\/strong> and Matthew 18:15\u201317<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              \u00a05. Scripture that Exposes the Control Spirit<\/span><\/h2>\n

              \u00a0Jesus’ Warning on Power Abuse \u2013 Matthew 20:25\u201328 (KJV)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

              \u201cYe know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them\u2026 but it shall not be so among you.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

              Jesus says Christian leadership must never<\/strong> mirror worldly control.<\/p>\n

              Paul\u2019s Caution \u2013 Colossians 2:20\u201322 (KJV)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

              “Why\u2026 are ye subject to ordinances\u2026 after the commandments and doctrines of men?”<\/p>\n

              Isaiah 3:12 (KJV)<\/span><\/h3>\n

              “As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them…”<\/strong>
              Often misused out of context, but in reality Isaiah is rebuking national disorder<\/strong>, not forbidding women from serving God.<\/p>\n

              6. The Remedy: Returning to Servant-Based Leadership<\/span><\/h2>\n

                Reinstate mutual submission<\/strong> (Eph. 5:21)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

                Honor both male and female callings<\/strong> (Acts 2:17, Gal. 3:28)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

                Teach spiritual maturity<\/strong>, not gender-based control<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

                Discern fruit<\/strong>, not stereotype roles<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

                Personal Note from Sister Taveau D\u2019Arcy<\/strong>
                \nSister Taveau has never identified herself with secular women’s liberation movements. She has never once seen herself as attempting to “take the place of a Christian man.” She fully believes, according to the Bible, that in a godly, Bible-abiding Christian marriage, the husband is the head of the home<\/strong>.                 Taveau was taught by the hero role modeling of her parents and extended family, and then later affirmed\u00a0 by the Lord to follow Him without bias against men or women, or any race, style, or denomination. Her standard is not outer appearance, title, or tradition, but fruit<\/strong>, Christlike character<\/strong>, and discernment\u2014up close and respectful. After decades of observing the body of Christ firsthand in many streams and movements, she now shares what she has witnessed and tested, openly and scripturally.<\/p>\n

                Her messages are addressed respectfully to the body of Christ\u2014but specifically to those who have ears to hear<\/strong>. She does not speak as an angry accuser, debater, or divider. She believes every Christian is entitled to their own view<\/strong>, just as she is to hers:<\/p>\n
